How Often Should a House Cleaner Come? Weekly, Biweekly or Monthly
By Extol Cleaning, owner Tamiris Kempner · Updated

For most homes, a house cleaner every two weeks is the right balance, with weekly visits for busy households with kids or pets and monthly visits for small, tidy homes.
How often should a house cleaner come?
Every two weeks is the most common schedule and fits most households. Weekly cleaning suits homes with children, pets or heavy daily use. Monthly cleaning suits small homes, people who live alone, or people who keep up well between visits. The right answer depends on how fast your home goes from clean to not clean.
A practical way to decide: notice how many days after a cleaning the home starts to bother you. If it is three or four days, weekly is the answer. If it is around ten days, biweekly fits. If the home still feels fine after three weeks, monthly is enough.
Biweekly cleaning is the default schedule for most homes. Weekly and monthly are adjustments for more or less use.
Weekly, biweekly or monthly: how do they compare?
The three schedules differ in how much buildup each visit has to handle. Weekly visits clean a home that is almost clean. Biweekly visits handle two weeks of normal life. Monthly visits face a month of dust, kitchen grease and bathroom buildup, so each visit works harder to bring the home back.
| Schedule | Best fit | What each visit handles |
|---|---|---|
| Weekly | Families with kids, homes with dogs or cats, people who cook every day | Light buildup; the home stays close to clean all the time |
| Biweekly (every two weeks) | Most households, couples, busy professionals | Normal buildup from two weeks of daily life |
| Monthly | Small apartments and condos, people who live alone, very tidy homes | A month of dust and kitchen and bathroom buildup |
Whatever schedule you pick, the same core list repeats every visit: kitchen, bathrooms, dusting, surfaces and floors.
What does a biweekly schedule look like in a real home?
A biweekly schedule means the same core clean every two weeks, so the home never slips far. Bathrooms and the kitchen get reset before buildup sets in, and small extras get attention because the main work is already under control. It is a common middle ground between effort and cost.
Here is how one Extol Cleaning client describes her biweekly schedule, in her own words:
"Tamires and her team are absolutely wonderful! They started doing regular, biweekly cleanings at our house earlier this year and it has made a huge difference. Tamires is so kind and helpful and she and her team always leave the house gorgeous and feeling so fresh. They go above and beyond on the little details (such as cleaning inside our dog’s crate, putting away dishes, etc.). I would highly recommend their services to anyone in need of a cleaner and more livable / guest-ready home!" (Carmen H., August 2025)
Notice what she highlights: not the big rooms, but the little details. That is the real advantage of a regular schedule. When the core work stays under control, there is room for the small things.
What should change your cleaning frequency?
Four things should move your schedule up or down: who lives in the home, pets, how much you cook, and how much you are home. A household that changes, such as a new baby, a new dog or a parent moving in, usually needs a more frequent schedule than before.
Factors that push toward weekly:
- Dogs and cats. Fur and dust build up fast on floors and furniture.
- Young children. Kitchens, floors and bathrooms get daily heavy use.
- Cooking every day. Grease on the stovetop and counters builds up quickly.
- Working from home. More time at home means more use of every room.
- Allergies. Less dust between visits helps.
Factors that allow biweekly or monthly:
- One or two people in the home
- A smaller apartment or condo
- Long work days or frequent travel
- A habit of tidying daily
Many people also book recurring cleaning for someone else. One client wrote, "Tamiris works for my father regularly and is amazing!" (Andrea C., September 2024). A regular schedule for an older parent keeps the home in good shape without asking them to keep up with it.

Should you start with a deep cleaning before a recurring schedule?
Yes, if your home has not had a professional clean in months. A deep cleaning resets the areas a regular visit does not reach, such as inside the oven and fridge, baseboards, doors and light fixtures. After that, a recurring schedule maintains the result instead of chasing old buildup.
At Extol Cleaning, deep cleaning adds the oven, fridge, interior windows, baseboards, doors and light fixtures. Recurring cleaning then keeps baseboards up and spot-cleans interior windows, so the reset lasts. If your home is already in fair shape, you can start your recurring schedule right away.
Even on a weekly or biweekly schedule, a deep cleaning once or twice a year helps. Many people book it in spring or fall, which is what a seasonal cleaning is.
How do you make a recurring schedule work?
A recurring schedule works when access, priorities and communication are settled once and then left alone. Pick a fixed day, decide how the team gets in, tell them what matters most in your home and give feedback early. After the first few visits, the schedule should run without effort on your side.
Practical tips:
- Pick a steady weekday. Extol Cleaning visits run Monday to Friday, 7 am to 10 pm. Weekends are only by special arrangement.
- Settle access. A key or door code is fine; you do not need to be home.
- Share your priorities. Name the two or three things that matter most to you.
- Tell the team about pets. Dogs and cats are welcome.
- Give feedback quickly. If something was missed, tell Extol within 24 hours and the team comes back and redoes it at no cost.
- Plan around cancellations. Extol asks for 48 hours' notice; cancelling between 48 and 24 hours before the visit costs 50% of the visit; under 24 hours costs the full price.

Frequently asked questions
Is biweekly cleaning enough for a family with a dog?
Often, yes, especially in a home where people tidy daily. Biweekly cleaning handles normal buildup well. If dog fur covers the floors within a few days, or the dog sheds heavily, weekly cleaning may suit you better. Extol Cleaning welcomes dogs and cats, and you can start biweekly and move to weekly if you find the home needs it.
Is monthly cleaning worth it?
Yes, for the right home. Monthly cleaning works well in smaller apartments and condos, for people who live alone, and for people who keep up with daily tidying. Each monthly visit faces more buildup than a weekly or biweekly one, so it is also a good idea to add a deep cleaning once or twice a year.
Can I change my cleaning frequency later?
Yes. Your schedule should follow your life. People often move from monthly to biweekly when a baby arrives or a pet joins the family, or from weekly to biweekly when kids leave for college. Just let Extol Cleaning know ahead of time so the new schedule can be planned around your preferred weekday.
Do recurring cleanings include baseboards and windows?
At Extol Cleaning, recurring cleaning keeps baseboards up and spot-cleans interior windows. A full interior window cleaning comes with deep cleaning or as an add-on, and exterior windows are always an add-on. Other add-ons include the oven, fridge, laundry, linen change and dishes, which you can choose when you ask for a quote.
Do I need to be home for every recurring visit?
No. Many people on a recurring schedule are at work or out during the visit. With Extol Cleaning, a key or door code is fine, and the team brings all supplies. A simple approach is to settle access once, at the start of the schedule, so each visit can happen without you having to be there on your cleaning day.
How far ahead should I book a recurring cleaning?
Reach out as early as you can, and at least 24 hours before the first visit, depending on availability. Extol Cleaning answers the same day when possible, within 24 hours. Tamiris prefers to see the home before quoting, so the first step is usually a quick visit, or a quote without a visit when that is more practical for you.
